08 Feb 13 | Screen NSW congratulates AACTA Award winners

Screen NSW congratulates all NSW winners at the second Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards which were held in Sydney in January. 22 Screen NSW-funded projects received 87 nominations across the award categories this year, winning a total of 24 awards.

Southern Light Films and WBMC have announced that up-and-coming Australian actor Brenton Thwaites, BAFTA Rising Star nominee Alicia Vikander and AFI-nominated Jacek Koman have joined acclaimed actor Ewan McGregor (Star Wars, Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge) to star in Julius Avery’s highly anticipated crime thriller Son Of A Gun.

Porchlight Films and Lava Bear Films have announced that filming on The Rover has commenced.

Written and directed by David Michod (Animal Kingdom), The Rover is a slow burn thriller, starring Guy Pearce (Lawless, The King's Speech, Memento) and Robert Pattinson (The Twilight Saga, Cosmopolis).

Encore magazine has launched its new weekly format with the arrival of its free tablet edition on both iPad and Android.

Encore's popular Production Report will also feature in the tablet edition as a guide to what's in planning, production and post across the film and TV sector. Additionally, Encore carries extended video content to include interviews with those at the forefront of the industry, and a wider footprint to include the businesses of radio, advertising, print and digital alongside film and television.

The Australian Directors' Guild (ADG) earlybird deadline for entry in the ADG Awards is December 7, 2012; regular entry deadline is February 15, 2013.

08 Feb 13 | Make Hummus Not War official selection Berlin International Film Festival

Could a regional love of hummus be the recipe for peace in the Middle East? This was the question on Trevor Graham’s mind when he set out to direct Make Hummus Not War, a documentary feature film and website about the Middle Eastern conflict you don’t see on the nightly news. Make Hummus Not War has been officially selected to screen at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival. The Berlinale is one of the world’s leading film festivals, showing the recent best of international cinema. Make Hummus Not War will screen in a section called Culinary Cinema.
