29 Mar 15 | New Screen Productions Will Generate $219 million In NSW

It has been announced that three major Hollywood animated feature films will be produced in the state. 

The NSW Government also announced funding in 10 new local film and television productions with the combined expenditure in NSW for the three major films and the 10 local productions expected to be more than $219 million.

Screen NSW is moving its funding applications online. When funding rounds open shortly, we will be using the online grants management platform SmartyGrants. Many government and community organisations are also using SmartyGrants, including screen agencies like Film Victoria.

Screen NSW has partnered with Metro Screen to launch the new Emerging Producer Placement (EPP) program. The new EPP has been designed to identify and support a new generation of emerging producers in NSW and advance their careers in screen.

Screen NSW supported Australian feature documentary film, Tyke Elephant Outlaw, will have its world premiere next month at the Sarasota Film Festival in Florida, one of the largest regional film festivals in the US.

30 Mar 15 | Mad Max: Fury Road To Screen At Cannes Film Festival

Mad Max: Fury Road the highly anticipated film supported by Screen NSW and directed, produced and co-written by George Miller will screen on 14 of May at the 68th Cannes Film Festival.

30 Mar 15 | Backtrack To Premiere At The Tribeca Film Festival

Screen NSW supported Backtrack, a supernatural thriller, will have its world premiere in April at the 14th annual Tribeca Film Festival.

The film, which secured $500,000 in funding from Screen NSW’s Production Finance Fund and a grant of $100,000 from Regional Filming Fund created 520 jobs and a production spend of over $6.6 million.

A strong cross-section of Australia’s film industry came together in March to discuss how to retain the value of feature films amidst changing audience behaviours, including high levels of piracy and a changing distribution market. Producers, exhibitors and distributors in Melbourne and Sydney discussed challenges, risk and innovation opportunities at the ‘Stories Valued: Audience and revenue in the new distribution landscape’ events hosted by Screen NSW, Screen Australia, the IP Awareness Foundation (IPAF), and Film Victoria.

Entertainment Assist is conducting research exploring people’s experience in the entertainment industry and associated impacts.  

The survey is a world first because it aims to cover all sectors within the industry from actors, singers, dancers, circus performers, comedians, TV presenters to producers, directors, sound & lighting techs, backstage crew and roadies.
