NSW screen productions are firmly in the global spotlight this month with Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o and Academy Award-nominated director Bruce Beresford both in Sydney to film separate projects supported by the NSW Government (Little Monsters and Ladies in Black).
Director Larissa Behrendt - After the Apology- a landmark documentary about child removal
After the Apology is a politically-charged documentary about four Aboriginal grandmothers taking on the government policies to curb the skyrocketing rates of child removal and bring their grandkids home. Ahead of its screening at the Winda Film Festival Closing Night, we spoke to the film's director, Professor Larissa Behrendt, about their grassroots actions that spearhead a national movement to bring the kids home.
Renae Maihi brings Māori women's voice to life in Waru
Eight female Maori directors have each contributed a ten minute vignette, presented as a continuous shot in real time, that unfolds around the tangi (funeral) of a small boy (Waru) who died at the hands of his caregiver.
