Ngaaru Nyami is a story of Gumbaynggirr Elder and poet, Aunty Bea Ballangarry who conducts ceremonies for healing and cultural sharing. Ngaaru Nyami is a 30 minute poetic doc that celebrates the intrinsic relationship between water, women and healing. Incorporating language, poetry and cinematic vision, the work will immerse the audience in a unique contemporary cultural experience and how a strong elder is reinventing and reawakening her disappearing ceremonial practices in the 21st Century. Set in both her homelands of Coffs Harbour and in Venice, Italy, Aunty Bea discovers she has her own wounds to heal.
