The rural atmosphere and heritage of Camden town is evidenced by the presence of an equestrian park, working dairy, vineyard and livestock saleyards making Camden a true "working country town".
Some places of historical interest include:

Wivenhoe Villa (built 1837) and The Stables (built 1834), Arts and Craft Gallery. Macquarie Grove Road, Camden.

requires at least TWO WEEKS notice so an accurate assessment of impact can be made. A detailed check list is available on request to assist this process and has to be completed before consent can be issued. In some cases a DA may be required depending on the impact on traffic etc. A nominal fee usually applies and this revenue is used to promote tourism in the area. -

Coonambleites work hard and play harder - which explains why we have such a hectic calendar of events and such excellent facilities to support them. We host the largest combined Rodeo and Campdraft in the southern hemisphere each June Long Weekend plus Rodeo Schools, junior rodeos and campdrafting throughout the year. Horses play a big part in the district and throughbred racing remains one of our largest industries - horse sports, pony club, equestrian, polocrosse and picnic races feature highly. We have water skiing and jet skiing at our first class weir and an enormous annual greyhound racing carnival. The Coonamble Museum has exhibits depicting the building's past as a Mounted Police Station and base for some talented Aboriginal Trackers as well as houseing a full size replica of a Cobb & Co. coach. Coonamble is a great central location to explore the region's natural attractions. To the north, the Barwon River offers excellent fishing and the world famous opals of Lightning Ridge are close to hand. Even closer is the Pilliga Scrub with its "million wild acres" making it home to wild horses, koalas and the rare barking owl. The Warrumbungle National Park east of Coonamble has beautiful picnic spots and marked walking tracks through these ancient mountains to suit both the casual hiker or serious tramper. To the west are the Macquarie Marshes - a unique wetland unrivalled for its birdlife. The Coonamble Shire encompases the two villages of Quambone and Gulargambone. Quambone is the gateway to the Macquarie Marshes. Recent research highlights it as the most important colonial nesting waterbird breeding site in Australia. The Nature Reserve is open to the public each year on the October Long Weekend and is open at other times by canoe with guided group tours with access from private properties. Gulargambone is a vibrant community surrounded by huge tin gulahs (the birds, not local people). The community applied and received a grant to erect over forty giant gulahs around the town and on each approach to it. You can't miss them. Investigate the two eight two eight building; a major endeavour named after the local postcode. The old picture theatre has been renovated and painted with Tuscan-influenced colours. Including a gallery, giftshop and caf serving light meals, they also host monthly movie nights with popcorn and cappuccinos. Meander down the main street and see a sequence of shopfront murals depicting the area's history.

Steam Plains a little to the north of the world famous Conargo Hotel (40kms North of Deniliqiun) is famed as the flattest country on the earth, it is said that out here the interrupted view of vastness allows you to actually see the arc of the earth with the naked eye. For a real spectacle come and see thousands of utes of every age, make and size lined up on the plains. Some have travelled from every region on the Australian map just to be a part of The Plains Festival and the World Record Ute Muster and to enjoy a weekend of Australia's best country music - in its rightful place.

Today, the city is a heritage gem, a legacy of the 19th Century colonial period with stately mansions, grand public buildings and churches. Hailed as a spectacular heritage city, Maitland's High Street has been described as "one of the most intact high streets in Australia". It is surrounded by picturesque villages, most notably Morpeth, a charming blend of history and contemporary living, that has been classified by the National Trust. Maitland has retained much of its built heritage, because unlike other places, circumstances intervened to ensure that unnecessary demolition did no occur from undue haste.
Maitland gaol (1848), now a cultural heritage tourism landmark; Alberglasslyn House c.1840s, Tocal Homestead, c. 1830s; are legacies of notable colonial architects such as Verge, Blacket, Mortimer Lewis and Barnet.

Oberon, at 1113 metres above sea level, is the highest village of both regions. Oberon has a true mountain climate. Frosts occur regularly during autumn, winter and spring. Several snowfalls can be expected each year. Oberon has four definite seasons, enjoying cool summers, balmy autumns, cold crisp winters and lush springs. Shire population - 5,400. Elevation - From 300 metres to 1,375 metres. Annual Rainfall - 880mm, spread throughout the year. Average Temperature 21degrees (day), 12degrees (night) in summer, 8degrees (day), 1degrees (night) in winter.
The lush countryside attracted settlers and grants of land began to be taken up along the Fish River and the Campbells River in the 1820s. Gold first discovered in 1823. Permanent settlement in the district began in 1839 but it was not until 1863 that the name was changed to Oberon (taken from the King of the Fairies in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream") and it was declared a village. There have been many silver and copper mines in the district and the area is still well known for its sapphires and gemstones, which attract many fossickers. Oberon has good shopping facilities with most goods and services including professional and trade services available in the town. Prime lambs and beef cattle are the main rural industries. Brussel sprouts, broccoli, potatoes and peas are the main horticultural industries, although there is some diversification in this area. Tree nurseries, nut tree plantations, bulb farms, new ventures and experimental enterprises are developing. Timber processing by Oberon Timber Complex is the major secondary industry, sourcing the raw material from large Forests NSW radiata pine plantations and those of private forest growers. Oberon's proximity to Jenolan Caves, the Kanangra Boyd National Park, and its unique climate and spectacular scenery have contributed to the continuing growth of the town.
Most early buildings in Oberon were built of pise, wattle and daub or slabs from local timber. Among Oberon's significant buildings are the National Australia Bank building, St Barnabas Anglican Church, built in 1869, Ramsgate, a two storey Victorian private residence built in 1906, and the Art Deco Malachi Gilmore Hall, built in 1937. At various stages in its history this building has been a ballroom, a cinema, a cabaret venue, a skating rink and is currently a wool store. It is one of the few surviving architecturally significant buildings of this period in Australia. All three are in Oberon Street. Further afield, there are several European heritage items within the shire: the limestone bridge near the Grand Arch at Jenolan, the Tarana-Oberon railway line, the Sidmouth Valley-O'Connell Road, Phils Falls, the Old Bathurst-Sydney Road, the Six Foot Track, Brisbane Valley Creek Gold Diggings, the Hazelgrove cemetery and the lone grave on "Springvale" property. Rowes Homestead, Bolton Vale Homestead, Jenolan Caves House, the O'Connell Hotel, the Lindlegreen group of buildings at O'Connell (including a pise barn which is reported to be the oldest standing mud construction in Australia), the St Francis Catholic Church group of buildings (now a bed & breakfast) at O'Connell, and the St Thomas Anglican Church group of buildings at O'Connell are all heritage listed and well worth a look. The Oberon Museum, once the railway station, is located at the end of the historic Oberon-Tarana railway line and has a good collection of items of local historical interest.
There is a circle of villages and localities surrounding Oberon which have historic pubs, churches, cemeteries and their own character again including Black Springs, Burraga, Rockley, O'Connell, Tarana, Hampton and Jenolan.

Occasional snowfalls and thick frosts make it a winter wonderland and rich reds, yellows and golds are on show in autumn.
This thriving regional city has a population of 39,000, and features many fine Victorian homes, history and heritage, food and wine, natural beauty, parks and gardens, three golf courses, a high mountain (Mt Canobolas) and lake (Lake Canobolas).
Come to Orange for history and heritage. Along with streetscapes and landscapes, Orange also boasts a number of exceptional historic buildings and homes ideal for period filming or modern day scenes. Many of these buildings have been restored to their original form. As Australia's first gold was discovered at Ophir (25km from Orange), there are many old mining sites, particularly at Lucknow (10km from Orange).
Consider Orange for food growing locations. Orange has a strong wine industry with many accessible cool climate vineyards that transform the landscape into rolling Tuscan like hills and a number of orchards complete with their original packing sheds. It also has a reputation for fine dining with a number of award winning restaurants and annual events - F.O.O.D Week in April, monthly Farmers Markets and Wine Week in October. Smaller enterprises range from olive groves, to truffles, hazelnuts, honey and organic vegetables.
Orange has more than 80 suburban parks, some of which are major tourist attractions. Centrally located is Orange's Cook Park. Taking up an entire street block, Cook Park is a fine example of a large early Victorian landscaped park with an amazing area of shade and greenery, 100-year-old trees, ponds and features such as gates, a rotunda, fountain, fernery and aviary. Equally as attractive is Orange's Botanic Gardens. The gardens are made up of a number of themed gardens and open spaces. Perfect for picnic or wedding celebration themes or film at the unique giant timber Adventure Playground.
Industry is another facet in the image of Orange. The large factory complex of Electrolux is located in town and Cadia Gold Mine is just 25 minutes from the city. An airport is located 15 minutes from Orange.
Orange is renowned for its four distinct seasons each boasting an individual effect on the region's streetscapes and landscapes. Golden reds and oranges splash through the city in autumn, with winter comes a brilliant white contrasted with green in spring and summers arrival brings a warm golden sunshine complimenting the lush landscapes.
Orange is rich in culture, attributing to this cultural prosperity is the Orange Regional Gallery. Since opening in 1986, the gallery holds a reputation as one of the finest and well patronised regional art galleries in Australia with up to 30 exhibitions held each year. Both the gallery and library host many regional, national and international cultural exhibitions. The library also provides excellent research facilities for residents and visitors alike.
Natural wonders and beauty. Orange is located just 20 minutes from the amazing natural wonders of the Mt Canobolas State Recreation Area and Lake Canobolas. Tall and majestic Mt Canobolas, an ancient volcano, stands 1395 metres above sea level. A stunning 360-degree view from the summit encompasses the city of Orange, the rolling countryside and the Blue Mountains in the distance. Found at the base of Mt Canobolas is tranquil Lake Canobolas perfect for filming water activities and water reflections.
The city also has a range of educational services with schools, TAFE and Charles Sturt University and a range of sporting facilities available within the city.
Orange City Council and the people of Orange welcome the film and television industry to the city. Council takes a proactive approach to assisting any organisation seeking to use Orange as a base for production and with Council's direct control of the many public spaces within the city, such assistance may be of mutual benefit. -

Port Macquarie is a modern cosmopolitan town located an easy four-hour drive north of Sydney. The Hastings area consists of a wide variety of suitable locations for film and television production.
Timbertown: A replica of a working pioneer village from the 1800s. Steam sawmill, working steam train, bullock team, draught horses, blacksmith, and an authentic recreation of early Australian architecture including churches, railway stations, and miner's cottages. At Timbertown you will find a former age lifted in its entirety from the realms of history and placed within our own. A living, breathing village, Timbertown has a narrow gauge steam locomotive representing the logging railways of a century ago.
Rural Vistas: The farming town of Comboyne offers the appearance of an English countryside with stone fences, narrow country roads with quaint little villages and towns along the way. The regional centres of Wauchope and the Camden Haven are steeped in history and offer rural images of typical country towns.
Sub-Tropical Rainforest: "Where the rainforest meets the ocean?" is not the exclusive property of Far North Queensland. Our rainforest areas adjoin the beaches and provide a myriad of locations from small sheltered areas to more open beaches.
Beaches: Along with the above mentioned beaches we also have long stretches of pristine white sandy beaches and coastal dunes. From headlands to breakwalls and lighthouses - it's all here!
Natural Environment: The World Heritage listed Werrilimbe National Park borders our shire to the west with it's Antartic Beech foreshores, crystal-clear mountain streams, waterfalls and wild river rapids. Closer to town are the Kooloonbung Nature reserve, Lake Innes and Limeburners Creek. All these areas have their own unique characteristics.

Many of the buildings in the main street have been listed with the National Trust and similar organisations. Recently a number of verandas have been refurbished and returned to their original state when first built. This gives the street an interesting view and the distinctive feel of the early 1900s. The two hotels retain their facades of the 1880s and the Thunderbolt Inn still has many Victorian features internally. Other buildings in the main street show the march of time from 1870 through to the present day. Scattered throughout the township are many buildings that are fine examples of architectural gems such as the stationmaster's residence and the railway station (1883-1885), post office (1885), Uralla Courthouse (1883-1885) and the Oddfellows Hall (1888), plus many more.
McCrossin's Mill is a superbly renovated, 3 story, 1870s flour mill and is now maintained as an award winning museum. It is now the home of Captain Thunderbolt memorabilia, gold rush era, aboriginal diorama and other historical data etc, and is run by the Uralla Historical Society.
The Brass and Iron Lace foundry (1872) is still to this day a commercial concern and continues to produce goods in the 'old fashioned way' over the hot coals. The foundry is of weatherboard construction and exudes that long-lost feel of the blacksmith's art, retaining the original moulds for lace work found on Buildings around Uralla and in Sydney Town (Newtown and Balmain).
Gostwyck Chapel was built in 1921, in the English tradition and some 200 Elm trees line the road up to and surrounding it. The Chapel itself is covered in Virginia Ivy which turns a glorious red in Autumn along with the Elms, recreating a typically English vision in rural Australia.
Salisbury Court, built in the 1840's is a wonderful homestead, surrounded by a garden featured in the Open Garden scheme - it even includes a very English 'ha ha'. This is a working property, and the gracious owners are more than happy to provide stock for 'extras'. This is the perfect setting for a period drama!
70km North West of Uralla is the Village of Bundarra that retains a streetscape very similar to that of a stereotypical small country town of the late 1800s and for this reason was chosen for a lot of the filming of The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith. The Mount Drummond School building has been re-sited into town and is maintained as a museum. It is furnished authentically as it would have been in 1916. -

Coonabarabran is the main centre, with smaller towns of Coolah, Binnaway, Baradine, Dunedoo and Mendooran each having their own character.
Coonabarabran is nestled in the foothills of the Warrumbungle Range at the head of the Castlereagh River. Known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, Coonabarabran is the home of Australia's largest optical astronomy research centre, Siding Spring Observatory. This complex sits atop the Warrumbungle Range and affords views of a vast and diverse landscape - the craggy peaks and spires of the Warrumbungles, the environmental haven of the Warrumbungle National Park, the "million wild acres" of Pilliga Scrub (State Forest and Nature Reserve) and the vast open western plains. Siding Spring Observatory is open to the public through the day. For night time viewing, Skywatch Observatory has been built closer to Coonabarabran.
Agriculture is the main contributor to the local economy. Beef cattle breeding, fine wool production, wheat and other cereal crop farming are the traditional pursuits. There are several farming properties which are showpieces and fine examples of newer conservation techniques including mudbrick. There is, by contrast, a large heritage woolshed, Garraween, which is very photogenic.
Warrumbungle Shire is home to a good number of heritage style and older Australian Pubs, buildings and homes. The scenery is spectacular and the clear night skies are a reason why Astronomy is a big industry here.
All of these industries and properties are accessible to the public with prior notice.
The Aboriginal people, the Gamilaroi, inhabited the area and today there are several sites which are accessible to the public. Permission is required to access Burra Bee Dee - an old Aboriginal Mission site. The closest town to the Pilliga Forest is Baradine which has two historic country pubs, one with iron lacework ceilings. The Pilliga has a number of nature reserves, some have sandstone and salt caves while others have fabulous birdlife and wildflowers particularly from August to November; there is also a colony of koalas. The area is accessible, but a 4WD must be used in wet weather in some areas.
Binnaway has several picturesque weatherboard houses and has strong links to the steam train era. A hotel here has been used in filming Peter Weir's film classic, 'The Shiralee'.
Coolah is set within a beautiful valley of the Liverpool Range with undulating hills and river flats, and the district is renowned for its rich fertile lands. It plays host to typical rural life with cattle and sheep stations and other unique enterprises such as emu, ostrich and goat farming. The district has a reputation for world-class gardens and historical homesteads.
Coolah Tops National Park has rare flora and fauna and a huge collection of giant grass trees and the largest snow gums ever recorded. The park is situated on top of the Range and boasts spectacular views over the Liverpool Plains. Coolah is four and a half hours from Sydney.
The township of Dunedoo has a main street depicting a typical Australian country townscape, with shops, buildings and pubs often retaining their original architecture. One side of the main street is devoted as a picnic and recreation area.
Mendooran is a town of colourful murals and the oldest settlement on the Castlereagh River with the traditional wide streets. Painted by a local artist, the murals adorn several main street buildings and depict scenes of country life. The period of architecture varies, with strong evidence of the Art Deco period and a lovely old movie theatre. The Goonoo State Forest is nearby.
Warrumbungle Shire Council, through the Coonabarabran Visitor Information Centre is most supportive of groups using the area for filming. The Tourism Coordinator works closely with such organisations to ensure the best possible venues, sites, extras etc, and local liaison generally. -
