Wayne Blair Director/ Writer
Wayne Blair is an actor, writer and director for theatre, film and television. Wayne is currently an Associate Artist for Company B at Belvoir Street Theatre. In 2007 he directed and performed in the sell-out production Jesus Hopped the A-Train and directed the sell-out production of Brendan Cowell's play Ruben Guthrie, both for B Sharp. Wayne wrote and directed a stage adaptation of Njunjul the Sun for the Kooemba Djarra Theatre Company in Brisbane. In 2005 Wayne directed Unspoken at the Old Fitz which toured nationally in 2006 with Performing Lines and won Best Independent Production at the Sydney Theatre Awards. At STC Wayne directed The Removalists, The 7 Stages of Grieving and Romeo and Juliet. Ruben Guthrie was produced as part of Company B's mainstage season in 2009. Wayne's short film The Djarn Djarns, which he wrote and directed, won the Crystal Bear Award in the Kinderfilmfest competition at the Berlin Film Festival in 2005 and a Deadly Award for Outstanding Achievement in Film (2005). The Djarn Djarns also won Best Screenplay at the Flickerfest Film Festival (2006), Best Short Screenplay at the AWGIES (2005) and Best Australian Short at the Film Critics' Circle Awards (2005) and has screened on SBS and Foxtel. Jubulj, which he also wrote and directed, was a finalist at the Melbourne Fedfest Film Festival (2001) and won Best Film at the ImagiNATIVE Short Film Festival, in Canada (2001). Wayne co-produced his third short film Kathy with Kylie du Fresne, which screened on SBS and was selected for Tropfest, Best of the Rest (2002) and won second prize at Carnivale Film Festival (2004). Wayne is currently developing two feature films, Godfrey and The Sapphires. Wayne's television credits include directing episodes of Double Trouble and Lockie Leonard Series 1 and 2 for the Nine Network. Wayne wrote an episode for the second series of The Circuit and co-wrote an episode of the second series of Lockie Leonard with Rhys Muldoon. The Circuit is nominated for an AWGIE Award for Best miniseries in 2009. As an actor Wayne has appeared in productions including: Blessed (Ana Kokkinos' 2009 feature film), Jesus Hopped the A-Train (B Sharp 2007), Othello (Bell Shakespeare 2007), Stuff Happens (Company B 2005), The Sapphires (Company B 2005), Run Rabbit Run (Company B 2003), Conversations with the Dead (Company B 2003), Inheritance (Melbourne Theatre Company 2003), Skin (Bangarra Dance Theatre 2002) and Cloudstreet (Company B 2001). |
