Applications for Cockatoo Island Film Festival close on 31 July. The Festival will take place on Cockatoo Island, the largest island in Sydney Harbor between 24-28 October.
48 films will be selected for competition in the following categories: Australia Narrative, Australian Documentary, World Narrative and World Documentary. In addition, over 200 works will be selected for the International and Australian Short Film Competition that will include the Young Filmmaker of the Year award.

31 Jul 12 | Young Indigenous Documentary Fellowship applications...
Applications for Cockatoo Institute and NSW Mining's Young Indigenous Documentary Fellowship close on 31 July 2012. The $20,000 fellowship is open to any Indigenous person aged 35 and under to assist in the production or development of a documentary that captures their unique point of view as an Indigenous Australian.
The fellowship will be awarded at the inaugural Cockatoo Island Film Festival from 24 - 28 October, and the film will be shown at the 2013 festival.
The recipient will be decided by Darren Dale (First Australians, The Tall Man, Mabo), Richard Frankland (Stone Brothers, Harry's War, No Way to Forget), and Pauline Clague (When Colin Met Joyce, Sa Black Thing, Round Up).

20 Jul 12 | Rottofest Applications Close 20 July
Entries of comedy short film and sketch entries from across Australia are now being accepted for Western Australia’s Rottofest. Australian residents can submit a short film of up to 15 minutes in length, or a filmed sketch up to 3 minutes in length that has been produced on or after 1 January 2011.
All finalist shorts and sketches will be screened at Rottofest and will be in the running for the following cash prizes: Funniest Short Film ($1,500), Funniest Sketch ($1,000), People’s Choice Funniest Short Film ($250) and People’s Choice Funniest Sketch ($250).The 4th Annual Festival will be held on Rottnest Island, WesternAustralia on 8-9 of September 2012.

15 Jul 12 | Inaugural Good Dog! International Film Festival...
The Inaugural Good Dog! international Film Festival is calling for short drama, documentary, animation, comedy, experimental, music videos and kids projects. Entries must be under 15 minutes and have a dog related story.
Good Dog! aims to nurture, support and promote independent films and filmmakers from all around the world and to champion stories about dogs and how they enrich our lives as companion animals.
The Film Festival takes place from 17-19 August 2012.
Categories:
- Films made by kids -under 15 mins $500
- Narrative (drama) -under 15 mins $500
- Comedy -under 15 mins (prize $500 sponsored by McGrath real estate)
- Other material including experimental and animation -under 15mins $500
- Documentary -under 15 mins $500
Regular submissions deadline is 10 June 2012, and late deadline is 15 July 2012.
