Win tickets to see Quentin Tarantino at P.R.O.M - Sydney

Chris Murray (ex-Popcorn Taxi Creative Director) has announced his new venture, P.R.O.M. (People’s Republic of Movies).

The first event off the ranks for P.R.O.M. will be an exclusive event in Sydney in partnership with Quentin Tarantino, and will feature his two favourite Australian ‘Westerns’, along with him in conversation with the filmmakers and cast of the films. The event will take place at The Star on 15th January. We catch up with Chris Murray to find out about the event (and to win a double pass, see details below).

Tell us a bit about People’s Republic of Movies (P.R.O.M)

PROM is a white bright light of cinematic ecstasy designed and engineered to deliver a pure and true interactive entertainment experience to lovers of film. We hope to spirit our audiences into a frenetic state of absolute engagement, the likes of which they will never forget.

Quentin Tarantino will be the first guest at P.R.O.M’s debut event, can you tell us how that came about?

I’ve been lucky enough to come into contact with Quentin quite a few times over the past 12 years. We first met when I was editing Empire at the Kill Bill premiere in Sydney. He was such fun, and so engaging and honest… he’s not like what you think, he’s better! Most recently he was my guest/host in 2009 at 'Popcorn Taxi' when we played Dark Age and he interviewed John Jarrett and Nikki Coghill, live on stage, for a one-off screening. We simply stayed in touch and he proved himself to be a no-bullshit lover of audience engagement. A wonderful and spontaneously passionate cinephile, Quentin swiftly agreed to ‘doing it again’ for our upcoming event in January while he’s out here for Hateful Eight, and he curated the film choices with gusto. He doesn’t play by the rules… totally my kinda' guy!

Director Fred Schepisi (The Chant, Six Degrees of Separation) and writer Thomas Keneally (Schindler's List) will also be at the event, what will they be speaking on?

Well, Fred and Thomas will be chatting to Quentin about The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith… a film that broke the mold when it was released and one that Quentin is deeply fond of; what they will actually say and reveal in front of our audience at the hands of Quentin is to be discovered on the night!

What can people expect from the evening?

 An event to remember!

It’s sad that most film premieres or screenings these days are delivered with such a lacklustre sense of excitement and engagement. It’s as if they simply don’t care, they just press a button and expect everyone to conform? We want everyone to walk away from a P.R.O.M. event with their jaws on the floor, dribbling and spent; yet exuding a feeling of elation and wonder. This is a show, ladies and gentlemen… we intend on delivering that special experience with all guns blazing and the consequent memories to conjure goosebumps of joy and warmth they keep forever.

What does P.R.O.M have in the pipeline for 2016?

Quite a few things. Without giving away the farm, let’s just say we are talking to Walken, Rourke, Carpenter and a few others, right now, about conjuring unique and engaging experiences that will surprise and stimulate lovers of film beyond the cliche.

To win tell us in 25 words or less what you will ask Quentin Tarantino if you win the double pass.
