Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts George Souris has officially opened the 2012 Sydney Film Festival, welcoming new Festival Director Nashen Moodley to the city and the dozens of Australian and international filmmakers whose films will screen over the coming 11 days.

Broken Hill City Council is calling for investors to adapt the city's film studio. The $2.3 million refurbishment of the former Eyre Street power station was first opened to the public a year ago but a film is yet to be shot there.

13 Jun 12 | Linda Newton the new Development Director of Documentary Australia Foundation

Linda Newton has joined the Documentary Australia Foundation in the role of Development Director after six years managing philanthropic giving at the Taronga Foundation.

Linda helped raised millions of dollars for the conservation of endangered species during her time at Taronga. Her fundraising efforts helped build new exhibits, profile unusual areas of Taronga’s work and position the annual fundraising events as an essential part of Sydney’s social calendar. She also established the innovative annual Artists in Residence program at the Zoo in 2009.

24 May 12 | Alan Erson moves on from the ABC

Alan Erson has resigned as ABC TV’s Head of Documentaries to take up a new position with Essential Media and Entertainment.

Erson has spent five years with ABC TV, three as a commissioning editor for documentaries, and the last two as head of documentaries. He will leave ABC TV on 20 June.

The Australian Exporter Awards recognises the achievements of exporters, including screen projects and practitioners in the Arts and Entertainment section. Applications for NSW practitioners close on 20 August. The state winner automatically qualifies for the National Award finals.

14 Jun 12 | "Julian" Wins Flickerfest's Flick Pick Audience Award for Most Popular Film in 2012

Flickerfest has announced the winner of the ING DIRECT Flick Pick Award - the Australian short film Julian, directed by Matthew Moore. Julian had its world premiere at Flickerfest in January 2012, winning the Special Jury Prize, before going on to win the Crystal Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
