Animal Logic Artist in Residence Program

The Artist in Residence Program is an exciting new partnership between Create NSW and Animal Logic, supporting three NSW-based artists across a wide spectrum of artforms to undertake a three-month residency at Animal Logic.

Recognised as one of the world’s leading independent creative digital studios, Animal Logic has produced award winning design, visual effects and animation for over 25 years. This new initiative aims to provide time and space for three artists to explore new ideas, develop work, facilitate artistic exchange across artforms and collaborate with screen practitioners in the Animal Logic community.

Applications are open to NSW-based emerging and established creatives across several art forms including choreography, sound design, visual, aural, and oral art forms.

The residency will offer each artist the following:

  • Workspace
  • Mentorship and connections with local peers
  • Access to specialist equipment and technical assistance
  • Insurance

Applications will be assessed by a panel comprised of Create NSW and Animal Logic staff. A shortlist of up to six applicants will be invited for an interview with the Acting Director, Screen Investment, Engagement and Attraction at Create NSW, and representatives from Animal Logic before selection of the final Artists in Residence is made. Once finalised, the three recipients will begin their staggered placements throughout 2019.

Successful applicants will receive a three-month residency at Animal Logic and a grant of $10,000 to complete the residency.

Animal Logic will also provide the opportunity for a public sharing and group exhibition as part of the residency.

Visual artist Ben Quilty is the Ambassador for the initiative, having worked at Animal Logic early in his career. He has since been awarded the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship, Moran and Archibald Prizes, and an appointment to the board of trustees at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

As part of his ambassadorship, Quilty will deliver talks to the Animal Logic community during the residencies.
