Currently seeking expressions of interest for members to establish the new Screen and Digital Games Industries Advisory Committee (which will replace the Film and Television Industry Advisory Committee)

Screen and Digital Games industry professionals with a passion to help shape the future of the screen and digital games industries in New South Wales are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to join the Screen and Digital Games Industries Advisory Committee. We are also seeking expressions of interest from professionals outside the industry to fill one independent Deputy Chair role.

This is an exciting opportunity to help advise the NSW Government on strategic opportunities for the sector and the allocation of program funding across the screen and digital games industries.

Role of the Advisory Committee

The Screen and Digital Games Industries Advisory Committee provides advice to the Minister for the Arts and the Secretary of the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport on the strategic direction and funding allocations of programs being administered by Screen NSW for the screen and digital games industries.

The requirements for the Advisory Committee will be defined under the Screen and Digital Games Industries (Advisory Committee) Regulation to come into effect in July 2025. The regulation replaces the Film and Television Industry (Advisory Committee) Regulation 2024.

The Advisory Committee’s responsibilities will include:

  • Providing recommendations for screen or digital games production funding projects and programs administered by Screen NSW
  • Considering submissions from local councils seeking accreditation (if an accreditation program is established under legislation)
  • Providing advice relating to spaces and other locations accessible for screen or digital games production
  • Advocating for or promoting awareness of intellectual property rights of persons employed in the screen and digital games industries in relation to emerging technologies and evolving distribution platforms.

Commitment

Advisory Committee members will need to commit to a minimum of four Committee meetings per year, with all members encouraged to attend in person. Members may occasionally be asked to attend special meetings or provide out-of-session advice.

Remuneration

Members will be paid an annual fee on a pro-rata quarterly basis.

Criteria and desirable skills and experience

To ensure the Advisory Committee has appropriate expertise and experience to carry out its functions and meet regulatory requirements, the Advisory Committee will have members with significant experience or expertise in the screen or digital games industry, except for a deputy chairperson not from the industry, and of these members:

  • At least one member with experience in the digital games industry
  • At least one member who is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • At least one member who resides or works in regional New South Wales.

Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria.

  • Understanding of the screen and digital games industries and contemporary issues impacting the sector.
  • Communications skills and the ability to objectively represent a range of industry views.
  • Analytical and business skills to assess funding programs and applications.
  • Willingness to engage in constructive discussion with other Committee members and the government.

The NSW Government is committed to ensuring appropriate representation of women, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability and young people on Government Boards and Committees.

Eligibility

To be eligible to be appointed to a Board or Committee, individuals must be:

  • an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • a NSW resident or predominantly working in NSW
  • aged 18 or over.

Individuals who have not satisfactorily acquitted any prior Screen NSW or other DCITHS funding will be ineligible for consideration, unless written approval has been received from the relevant team or agency. This approval will only be provided on the condition that all outstanding acquittals are submitted prior to appointment.

All Advisory Committee members must undertake a NSW Government probity check which includes Confirmation of Identity, National Police History, bankruptcy and directorships check before their appointment is confirmed.
