Screen NSW is holding a monthly webinar series to help demystify market partners and support mid-level creatives and producers to feel more confident to create and pitch projects.
Joining us for NAIDOC Week at 12.30pm on Friday 11 July 2025 is Dena Curtis, Head of Commissioning and Production, and Cieron Cody, Senior Commissioning Editor, at NITV. We’ll be discussing opportunities for First Nations storytelling on screen. The conversation will cover NITV’s current content strategy, commissioning priorities, and how NSW-based creatives can engage with the broadcaster.
Dena and Cody will be in conversation with Screen NSW Investment Manager Hayley Johnson followed by an audience Q&A.
Dena Curtis
Dena is a Warlpiri, Warrumungu, and Arrernte woman from Central Australia. She joined NITV in 2024, as the Head of Indigenous Commissions and Production, overseeing NITV’s original content slate. Dena’s background is Producing and Directing. Her work includes the acclaimed children’s series Grace Beside Me, Comedy Series 8MMM Aboriginal Radio, AMC+ and See Saw Films’ Vampire hunter series Firebite, documentaries Ella, A League of Her Own, Back to Nature and Rebels with a Cause which premiered at MIFF and Factual Series Shadow Trackers and First Weapons, which took out GOLD at the New York Festivals Film and TV Awards in 2024.
Cieron Cody
Cieron Cody is a Wiradjuri man, and a development and production executive with experience in agency and broadcast settings. With a focus on project and slate management, Cieron has overseen the development, finance, production and completion of over 100 titles across animation, children’s content, games, VR, shorts, feature films, and series in documentary, fiction and factual entertainment. Cieron has supported a range of award-winning and record-breaking productions with some of Australia’s and the world’s most recognised market players and talent. He has advocated for the rise of new writers, producers and directors with a belief in the importance of a diverse sector, with an emphasis on First Nations participation. In 2017, he departed Screen Queensland as Vice President of Development and Production arriving at NITV as Commissioning Editor, before joining Screen Australia as Investment and Development Manager – Documentary. Cieron rejoined NITV’s commissioning team as Senior Commissioning Editor in November 2024.
